Crisis Management and Turnaround for Care Services

When a service is in difficulty, people need a calm, experienced hand. As a former Regional Crisis Support Manager, I step in to steady the service, support your team and build a credible plan for improvement.

Who this is for

Crisis looks different in every service. Sometimes it is a rating: "We have been rated Requires Improvement and I do not know where to start putting it right." Sometimes it is heavier: "An Inadequate rating or enforcement action has left the whole team shaken and the service at risk." It can also be the sudden loss of a manager, a serious incident, or a run of safeguarding concerns that has knocked everyone's confidence.

Whatever the cause, the first job is the same: keep people safe, steady the team, and get a clear view of what needs to change.

What I do

Emergency compliance interventions

I start with the risks to the people you support. Where there are immediate gaps in safety, staffing, medicines or records, we deal with those first, with clear actions and named owners.

Regulatory liaison during investigations

Communication with CQC matters a great deal when things have gone wrong. I help you respond clearly, accurately and on time, and keep a calm, factual record of what you are doing to put things right.

Crisis communication

Staff, families and commissioners all need to hear from you. I help you plan what to say, when and how, so people hear honest information from you first rather than rumour.

Staff morale and team rebuilding

A poor rating can leave good staff feeling blamed and ready to leave. I spend time with the team, listen to them, and help rebuild the confidence and pride that good care depends on.

Rapid improvement implementation

An improvement plan only helps if it is realistic. We prioritise, set dates you can meet, and review progress often enough to keep momentum without burning people out.

How the first weeks usually run

I listen first: to you, your team and, where possible, the people you support and their families. Then I look at the evidence, including any inspection report, so we work from facts rather than fear. From there we agree priorities, start on the most important risks straight away, and set a regular review so everyone can see progress. My role is to lead alongside you, not to take over, so that the improvements belong to your service and last.

After the crisis

Recovery is not the end point. Once the service is steady, I can help you embed the changes through quality assurance audits, stronger governance and support for your leadership, including your nominated individual. Many of the lessons from a hard period become the foundations of a much stronger service.

I will always be honest with you about where things stand. I will not promise a particular outcome from CQC, but I will give you an experienced, steady partner who has helped services through difficult times before.
